From thier point of view the west is helping Israel and is not doing anything to protect people in Gaza who happen to be muslims. Do you think they would start attacking the US and UK and start another ‘Jihad’

The arab and muslim press is largely highly critical of Hamas as being wholly owned, armed, financed and directed by president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards!!
You cannot have missed the fact that Syria is staying quiet in this and that is because they are talking peace!!
The simple fact is that every move Hamas makes kills and maims their own people. far from seeking peace they are pursuing an unwinnable war and ensuring all their people live in fear and many in poverty!!!
Muslims are starting to realize just what their terrorists are actually doing to them!!!
It is important to remember the context in which these acts of aggression, on both sides, are occurring. The concept of waging a jihad against Western countries has less to do with religion, and more to do with local populations in the Middle East and South Asia feeling like they have forms of government that represent their cultural identities, lives that have some form of security, and that their families are not targeted as part of larger global campaigns to secure resources for far-away industrialized countries.
If you consider the fatwa issued by Osama bin laden in 1998, which precipitated the Sept. 11th attacks, you will note that the primary concerns of even Al Queda at the time were less about religious ideology, and more about the meddling of foreign countries, either directly or indirectly, in traditionally Islamic regions.
US bases in Saudi Arabia, and the Saudi Arabian monarchy itself, were as much at issue as the behavior of Israel’s Jewish government. This is the context in which the Jihad takes place… where religion is the way that leaders convince the young impressionable minds of their landscape to wage war against others. We do it in the US just as readily as Islamic fundamentalists in Central Asia… its the marketing campaign to get people to do things they would otherwise not do.
Can the conflict currently happening in Israel develop into something larger? Absolutely.
Will it be called a jihad? Probably.
Is religion the reason these factions are fighting?
Hardly.
It is about power and influence and security… and the provision or inability to provide these. The Hatfield/ McCoy kind of fighting taking place now are just symptoms.
